NACCPO Testimonial

I just wanted to say that what the THHN are doing is amazing.

The families that are being put forward from NACCPO member groups to receive these holidays will have been through some very bad times. To be told that your child has a life-threatening illness like cancer is devastating and not something that any parent should ever have the hear.

Many children these days survive and thrive after cancer treatment (cure rates overall at around 75-80%) BUT not for some of the rarer cancers and not even for all the children diagnosed with the more common cancers. Even if the children do go on to lead normal, happy lives after treatment they may still have undergone many years of nasty treatments, prolonged hospital stays and isolation from their peers.

Treatment for boys with Leukemia for example can last over 3 years and entail hundreds of needles, operations, hair loss and personality/appearance changes due to long-term use of steroids. Parents often struggle to stay in employment as they have to care for their poorly child and siblings may feel isolated and rejected so family life is disrupted and changed beyond recognition. Worst still, for some families, this may be the last break they spend together therefore you could not put a price on the lasting fond memories and the comfort it may bring in the dark times ahead.

To have the offer of a break in such beautiful surroundings and a chance to be 'normal' for a week is an enormous boost to the whole family.

We thank all of you involved from the bottom of our hearts xxxx
